The newly opened Bangladesh Embassy in Copenhagen celebrated the 45th anniversary of Victory Day of Bangladesh on 16 December 2015 with great enthusiasm and festivity. The morning session of the day-long programme began with the hoisting of the National Flag by the first ever resident Ambassador of Bangladesh Mr. Muhammad A Muhith. In the evening a colorful celebration programme was organized by the Embassy at the Chancery auditorium where a good number of Non-resident Bangladesh citizens including political figures, artistes, professionals working in Danish business organizations and UN bodies were present. During the programme messages from the Hon’ble President, the Hon’ble Prime Minister and Hon`ble Foreign Minister and Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs released on the occasion of the Victory Day were read out. A documentary on the War of Liberation and atrocities and brutalities committed by the occupant Pakistani forces and their local collaborators was screened.

In his speech, the Ambassador said the 16 December 2015 in Copenhagen bore special significance as the long awaited Embassy could mark its opening with the participation of NRBs while celebrating the country’s great Victory Day. He  described the Victory Day as the most glorious day in the history of Bangalee people. He paid deep respect and homage to the memories of the Father of the National Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, freedom fighters, martyrs and the women who lost their dignities during the liberation war. He viewed that the victory Day is a source of inspiration for the nation that is currently transforming itself into a knowledge based digital middle income country by realizing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Vision 2021. He emphasized on the Government`s commitment to conclude the war crimes trials defying pressures from defeated forces of 1971. He urged the NRBs to rally public support on the genocide and atrocities committed in 1971 and in favour of the trial of war crimes in Bangladesh. He apprised the audience on the objectives of opening a resident Mission in Denmark and called upon for their support to materialize them. While referring Bangladesh as one of the most vulnerable counties in the face of Climate Change, he viewed that Bangladesh can benefit from the expertise and experience of Denmark in producing renewable energy and developing green solutions to various problems including industrialization to protect the environment. He assured the audience that the Embassy would do its best to forge cooperation with Denmark in these critical areas in order to adopt and mitigate climate induced crises in Bangladesh.

The programme was rounded off with refreshment hosted by the Embassy.
